Morning obsevation and regrets to those in the cold

I would like to say agian how sorry I am to hear of the problems caused by the cold weather ,I guess listen to those that know and see what happens,,,,,,,,,

Now I noticed my ASY male and how he seems to stand guard in the nest with his head sticking out while she is gone,,,,,,,,,,is this a norm?

One other question, it appears he can recognize other PM's when they are flying relatively close by and he starts vocalizing and then I see them. Hes never been wrong but then again he doesn't vocalize with other species. Is this recognition possible? I guess it must be,thats amazing to me.
