I had a group of new subbies arrive here today. It's hard to count with my resident pairs incubating and parents coming and going with bugs for the kids, but I think there were about 6 new ones. I'm not sure how many, if any, will stay, but they were sure scoping out the available compartments and causing the usual subbie ruckus with the established pairs. It's amazing how obvious the newcomers are. They act differently, unsettled, really struggling to get into the excluders. I guess their urgency is well-founded if they plan to nest this season. So all you landlords north of here, get ready. There are more on the way.

Subbies...again
That's good to know...I'm sitting at about 60% of last years nesters. Not sure what is going on. I do know the usual mid-April push of ASY birds did not materialize. The season started out pretty normal with 30 birds by mid-April. I have only picked up a handful of birds since. I have a had steady increase of about 10-15% for more than 8 years so I suppose I can expect a down year once in awhile.
Good luck to you this year.
Steve

Good Deal, Patrick! But, what the heck. I have subbies to the left of me (Dallas/Ft Wth), subbies to the right (Baton Rouge), no subbies down here in the lower middle. Dang.
Next year, I guess! (I hope!)
