Greetings,
I live in So. MD and I'm a new to PMs trying in my 2nd year to attract them. No joy so far. I'm wondering if my large oak tree is a problem. Here's my set-up:
- 6 Super Gourds on a Deluxe Gourd Rack
- Dawn Song via "Song Bird Magnet"
- 3 PM Decoy
- Location: In my 1ac field, 55' from outter most branch of ths massive oak tree and 75' from the house (see photo). I have a pair of nesting Bluebirds ~ 100' away.
Appreciate any wisdom. Thx!
Dave
MD: Tree too Close? (photo)
Dave,
No picture showed up, but 55' away from a tree should be okay if the rest of the area is clear. You said the tree is massive. How tall is it? Sometime higher is better for martins if there are tall trees nearby. How high is your gourd rack? Are there any densely wooded areas close by? Sometimes that will dissuade martins, even if the immediate area is open. Good luck...
