This evening was exciting. With only 8/10ths of an inch of rain this year, things are critical. Today it rained. Not a whole lot-maybe half an inch, but enough that might make a real difference in martin productivity, as many young are beginning to hatch and grow.
Of significance to those to the north, I am happy to report that these weather systems have brought some new subbies to our colonies. I feel sure most are migrating. I had about 8-10 last night and a couple of dozen tonight. Given the nature of the weather systems and time of year, it is likely that there were similar arrivals along the Texas coast. There is still a small but steady arrival of neo tropical migrants. Migration is coming to an end, but it is not yet there. There is a good chance for landlords to pick up another pair or two yet. Many of these will not reproduce this year, but they are strong enough to have completed migration and will be a wonderful stock for many folks in the years ahead.
May our friends find good homes. john

Greetings John! As the skies turned black this evening Gary and I noticed more than the usual bird count rushing into our housing. This must have been subbies fleeing the storm...they came in in droves.
