How do I prepare natural gourds?

I am expecting an order of natural gourds to arrive soon. I ordered from
PMCA. They already have the hole cut in them and dried. What do I put on them to preserve them? I have read to use copper sulfate? Can that be found locally like at Wal-mart or a paint store? I have also read that you can use Thompson's Water Seal. What is the best presertative?
