Al, why would he even bother to show up at 7:55 if he was going to sleep somewhere else? I bet he just went out for a bedtime snack. Did you quit looking after that?

I sometimes wait until 8:15 before I go in. There are always a few who run off and then fly back in after all the rest have settled down.

Barb, That's what I was trying to figure out. Why is he here right at sundown if he not staying the night. Like mentioned above, I did a pretty good job watching till 8:40 and didn't see him go in. At 9:00 I lightly tapped the pole and watched....nothing. If he was in a gourd he didn't budge.

OK... I missed that you stayed until 8:40.... Lightly tapping the gourd at 9 probably wouldn't have flushed him. (They don't budge easily once they have gone to roost.) Anyway, today's another day..... Maybe tonight you'll see him slip in!

Quite the mystery I'll agree.

OK, Tonight I'll shake the pole as hard as I can :) Just kidding. I should give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he's sleeping here. I'll check again tonight.

Al, two things may be happening 1) he may be spending the night with friends at some other location, but he may keep trying to attract a female to your place
2) if he cannot attract a female, he may eventually move in with one at some other place.

There still is time, so I hope he finds a partner and brings her back to your place.
