Caught male HOSP....

I got the male sparrow in the bluebird house w/ the trap door. I put him in the metal trap that's attached to the PM pole (sorry, I forget the names of all these traps. It's the metal one that has 3 compartments) I put him in the middle one in hopes of attracting the female.

Here's my question and I know it's not the brightest one I've ever asked but the curiosity is killing me. When I open the trap doors on the ends, I can't help but wonder how they can go into the middle compartment but not come back out. I'm so afraid this wily male HOSP will figure out a way to get out!

Thanks in advance. I do see the metal "walls" on either side of the hole leading into the middle compartment. Do they not SEE the hole because of that?

Joonie, the door to the center compartment is one way. Once the sparrow enters the center it can't go back to either side. The door is also spring loaded to prevent the sparrow from pulling it open.

Joonie,

Ken is right. I have two of these traps. I too put the male sparrow in the center compartment. There is a little metal flapper made to each side wall on center holding compartment. After the sparrow drops in and door closes, His natural instinct is to try and get out. When he gets to the metal flapper, he usually goes through it....And "WHA-LA" he's still trapped  The flapper only open toward the center holding pen. After they make their way into that you can reset door. Sometimes I will reach in a grab them on transfer them myself 8) Just have to make sure the hand is still quicker than the eye

Good luck!
