I had a ASY male and female visit the other day and then they left, are the just passing through or will they return? I filled out a scout report but I was wondering what these birds do until they start nesting. Do they just scout?

Mr. and Mrs. Wolf,
More than likely the pair you saw were headed to there own colony. Most, but not all new colonies are started by sy birds. When you see asy birds investigating housing its possible that were they nested last year that there house is gone. When people move, many of them take there housing with them. There also could have been predation that caused them to abandon that site. The fact that you had birds investigating your site is a good sign.I believe people up north have until late June to attract sy birds.Just this weekend a huge number of sy martins showed up all over Texas, and it is almost May.Good luck....
