It got crazy today! They are really coming in for me here in Tulsa and i had my first nasty fight this afternoon. I have an ASY male trying to bring in mates. He has successfully attracted several sy females i believe and they are all over the place. I am going to have to put together another house if this keeps up. Totally cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stan, I am glad you are getting some birds. Hope they fill up all the compartments you have available.

Thanks. Is your colony flourishing this year and have you noticed more martins here this year in general? Hope your season is great this year Dick and maybe i'll run into you at one of the roosts. Take care.

Stan, we have about the same number of martins that we did last year at this time. We would have had more, but we lost two ASY males to a hawk several weeks back. I have since put wire cages around three of the houses to provide a barrier. Hope the birds stay and nest at your place.

 I have heard so many stories about everyone having to wait for a long time for martins and so am very pleased at the activity. On April 6th I had an adult male and adult female arrive and came back every day. They spent the first night here (I think) on April 23. On that date there were 5 others that arrived and I was not able to identify them all. Definitely 1 adult male and looked like 2 sub adult females. One of the new arrivals (SYA) female went to the nest where the first pair was and the 2 females were tangled all the way to the ground. The males chased each other a lot.

  I put up 2 -12 apartments from S & K Mfg and 4 whistle gourds. The martins have not paid much attention to the gourds until today. I hope they occupy them. The other martins seem to prefer the south side of the houses which are away from my view. Darn!
