Photo Of Lone Star San Jacinto With Troyer Gourds Attached

I am a big fan of the Lone Star aluminum martin houses. They are pricey but you get what you pay for and you get a quality product with Lone Star.

I have 4 Lone Star houses: 14 room Alamo; 12 room Goliad; 16 room Goliad; and 8 room San Jacinto. The Goliad is my personal favorite and a favorite with the martins in my colony. I installed porch dividers on my Goliad houses and this helps to minimize nest domination by possessive males and just makes the houses look more attractive in my opinion.

I have attached a photo of my San Jacinto with 2 round hole Troyer horizontal gourds attached. I attached the gourds using threaded bolts through ventilation holes in the bottom compartments. They are not tightly bound against the house and swing some. Also I added perches to the top of the house and the martins love to sit on them. These are plastic coated aluminum garden stakes that you can buy at Lowes.

This house and gourds are mainly for the SYs which are pouring into my colony at this time. Both Troyer horizontals are occupied with SY pairs and the house has several SY males in residence.
