Go figure, 56 compartments and this male house sparrow chooses the one in the Trio Castle with a Trio Sparo-door. Entres vous the second bonehead. The castle has enlarged compartments. I try the attachment with the bag over the Sparo-door but deduce that the sparrow is in the other side. Sooooo, I decide to get him to scoot to the entrance compartment and figure I'll cover the interior opening with my hand and try the attachment with the bag again. Must have been lacking one hand as the sparrow bolted out the inner compartment before I could plug it with my hand and the rascal escaped.
Now I have a rather large ego and do not appreciate being humbled before my Forum brothers and sisters by a dastardly sparrow. He will be toast. Until then the Oneidalaker will have to suffer your snickers and guffaws and I can ensure you, I will not like it, not one bit. Until he is toast I shall sign off as "Bonehead".
By the way, regarding my war with the starling pair. They have left for parts unknown due to my inept harassment (without the glue trap) of them. Guess they tired of my potshots with the pellet gun and numerous removals of their nests. My hope is that I crippled at least one of them ans the other moved on.

I'm sure this has happened to most of us. You'll get him next time. Here's my story of the same...
Just last week I set up a BB house insert trap in a house with a fully completed HSP nest which had several eggs in it. (I had been biding my time to hopefully avoid a revenge spree.) Anyway this is a side opening BB box and after I noticed the trap set I went out with a trash bag like I've done numerous times in the past. I enveloped the box and opened the side. Nothing, not one sound or movement even after I banged on the box. I figure the trap was set off from the wind so I remove the bag. I then get up real close to take a good look and remove some of the nest material. Out like a bullet comes the HSP and she hits me square in the teeth! BLAK! I scream in horror and she's off like a flash. Haven't seen her since.

Hey Bonehead,
Don't worry, your not the first, nor the last..... image beating on the back of the house. The sparrow zooms out into the bag......
and out the hole on the other end!!
He'll be back... maybe!

I don't know if your bag was dark colored. I think clear plastic works better so the sparrow can see light, otherwise they do tend to retreat to the back compartment.
Maybe should start a new thread, but I see others on the Forum share my experience that sparrows love natural gourds. I guess there's no escape -- well, except for your sparrow.

Haven't seen the sparrow since. it was a clear bag, just needed three hands to plug the one hole, cover the trap opening with the cup and then open the trap. Still can't get over being such a nitwit, clearly outsmarted by a dastardly sparrow. Next time I'll block the inner hole with a block of wood and then attmept to bag him.
Thanks all for sharing you stories, I would have loved to have been watching any of us as the sparrow rocketed out of the trap, negotiating hands, teeth and bags in their bids for freedom.
Till he's caught
