I cannot lower my lone star martin house. I currently have martins nesting, but have one sparrow house I need to remove. When I try to lower the house the compartments separate. The upper one stay up and drops to the side. the middle house will lower halfway. Only the lower compartment will come all the way down. Need help. Anyone in the Flower Mound area with any suggestions. Called Manufacturer, they cannot help???????????

It sounds like you have the Goliad? I don't have the Goliad but I assume each unit must be bolted to the one above and/or below. There are several people on the forum with Goliads, I'm sure they'll check in soon.

rjflowermound,
I have had a LS Goliad House for year's and never had any problems with the raising/lowering of the house, in order to answer your question , can you get access to a ladder??, if so, could you posibbly go up and take a look as someone stands on the ground casually letting the housing down very slowly??, Maybe there is some obstruction of some sort, My Goliad is very loose on my 2" square pole, has alot of slack in it, see if your's is loose, also take up some oil to squirt around ea house/pole area. This is a new one on me??/....I hope this answer helps you, you can email me on my email address below if there is anything futher i can help you with.

This is DANGEROUS! rjflowermound, I have another type of Lone Star, but I think they all use the same pole. It sounds like the different levels are not attached. As they are coming down, and the top one cocks over sideways it snags and hangs by friction, and then the next one does the same thing. Be very careful, do not lower the housing with any of them stuck way up there. They could come crashing down at any moment.
Try this: Get a long pole that will reach the bottom housing when it is all at the top of the pole. Lower the housing slowing, just a little, until one unit has just begun to snag. Stop and use the pole to dislodge it. Work your way down the pole a little at a time. When you get it down figure out how they are supposed to be attached to each other.

Roosters? What a goofy censorship! I guess I should have used tilts.

Hi rjflowermound.
Like K.C. I own several LS goliads and have never had a problem raising or lowering the systems. In fact, I install a piece of felt pad between the house and pole to make them snugger and operate more smoothly.

I can only think of two things wrong with your system. The new lone star poles that I have seen have some type of cloth insert where the pole sections are joined together and some of that could be sticking out and stopping the descent of the houses. I don't think there is any on the top of the pole, so that is not likely your problem. If it is you need to cut any lining that hangs out off of the outside of the pole or eliminate any obvious hangups.

The goliad house sections slide tightly together and are not bolted together. If metal parts are bent, that might probihit their sliding together and cause them to come apart, but it should not keep the house from coming down.

A more likely cause of your problem is that the winch cable is installed wrong and is wrapping around the pole. The cable runs out of the winch next to the pole, goes up the pole and between it and the house sections, then over the top pulley and down inside the house sections where it attaches to the bottom of the downstairs unit. Check your cable and make sure it is set up that way and that it is not stuck on the sides of the pulley.

If all is in order, use a ladder and pull all sections down. Add some weight -4 or 5 pounds that can be in the nature of nestboxes-to the units that are sticking and allow them to work the problem out.

The lone star houses are the finest martin houses and systems made in my opinion. Houses come fully assembled and I am surprised you are having this type of problem. It makes little sense to me. Please let us know if you identify your problem.

Good luck and have a great season.
