problem w/ smart sparrow
Here in Canada I use a crossman pellet rifle that is under 400 fps (don't need a license for it) with a scope that is very well sighted in. Every shot has the house as a backdrop so no pellet goes astray. Have to make every shot count, so far so good. Sparrows seem to know what your up to if you miss them once...thereafter everytime you move they move. Laws in Canada are anything with any sort of muzzle velocity even a slingshot is illegal within any municipality....if your neighbours rat you out that is. Today's score is B 4 sparrows 0

Put a little straw into the compartment with the trap, so it thinks its nest that it is building is still there. then it won't be too leary of something going on. Then you have to plug everything single whole so it can't go into anything else. Then go and hide or it won't come back if it can still see you. Works everytime, just totally annoying.
Here's another idea... at our site sparrows have entered "Ol'Sparky", our Natureline with a trap entrance shimmed down to a 1 1/2" round hole so readily that I'm wondering if they actually prefer that entrance size over the larger martin entrances.
Perhaps it might be possible to shim down one of your empty compartments to a 1 1/2" round hole and leave a mousetrap set inside, and then leave it for a few days or until the sparrow disappears from outside the housing. Given the natural inquisitiveness of the species I'm betting he will check out that cavity at least once.
