BigAl54,
Do you have round holes? I am not sure what type of birds in your area that are cavity builders. If you have round holes its possible it could be a starling. If it is blackish in color and has speckles on it with a long orangish beak. I would think crescent hole and other type of excluder doors would be to hard to get in and out for a starling. If so it needs to be eliminated from the housing. Is there anyway of getting a picture. Maybe someone can send you a picture of a starling or other bird they may think it is. As my computer skills are somewhat limited...
Just make sure you know what type of bird it is before you try to eliminate!
Sorry I couldn't help you out more!
Good luck!

Hi BigAl54, I wrote to you twice yesterday and lost it in transmission both times. My internet connection was sputtering and when the "page not found" comes up, that is it on this Forum thing.
Congratulations on attracting a pair! There is a very high likelihood that the new black birds with orange beaks are starlings. Starlings are one of the biggest threats there is to your new colony. Look up starling on the internet if you are not sure what starlings are. If it is starlings, they should be eliminated, and fast. After the starlings decide that you are a threat to them, they are easily run off, but they will return relentlessly. I would be afraid if you do not already have starling resistant openings, that changing them to starling resistant would run off the new martins at this point. Do not block all the other openings or the starlings are likely to come over and evict your martins! Keep posting and let us know how it is going.

OK BigAl54, it is time to go to work if you are anxious to keep your martins safe. You could do nothing and it might be OK, but if you are willing to work at it you can improve your odds. You can trap them if you are willing to eliminate them afterward. You will probably need to buy some traps. There is a lot of support available to you here on this Forum on that subject. Shooting them with firearms or air powered rifles is legal. Discharging a firearm may not be legal in a city limits. Safety comes first, always. If you shoot, be sure where your bullets come down. The SREH will probably be the way to go at some point, but I would try to wait on that. Let the folks here know which ways you want to go to control starlings and the good folks here will help you every step of the way.
