Joe, thanks for posting the article, Karen truly has a magnificent way with words.
By the way, regarding the Harbor Freight 4-inch hole saw that we corresponded about. I used it with a different mandrel as you suggested and found that it cut gourds and PVC fine. I had hoped to use it with S&Ks access doors but found the hole to be slightly too small, requiring some work with a rasp which only took a few moments with the gourds. For PVC I had to enlarge the hole with a sabre saw.
Holy cow, there's nine martins flying over the lake in front of my house (two scouts arrived on the 11th, seven of these are new this morning). Gotta go!! It may be overcast but just as Karen described, it's turning into a great day.

Hi Bob,
I've used that saw kit many times now. I've cut several different sized holes on other wood projects as well.
Since the time we discussed that kit, I've purchased a Drill Doctor (a device that sharpens drill bits), and I've sharpened everything I could find, including a few of the neighbors).
So I've had no more problems with it. Before that, I used a 4 1/4 hole saw, which worked well enough - never having to use the rasp. But it's $18 price tag kept me from buying a 4" saw as well.
Congrats on the new PM at your house. Still, I have seen none at all. Not even a momentary visitor. I did get a dumb sparrow in my NB Trap yesterday. First bird of any kind in the two months it's been up out there.
At least I know it works. I thought I had it set for only Starlings, so it wouldn't get finches and other small varieties. I always check it in the mornings, so it's not a problem.

Joe, I'm so sorry that you haven't got any martins yet. When's the latest date for SY birds to pass through in your area, I hope theres still some time!
Since I last posted the sun has come out and I've been spending a lazy morning watching my new arrivials, making some last minute adjustments to my housing, adding some pre-built nesting material and in gereral, enjoying the day.
Have a nice Easter.

Bob,
Being in South Louisiana, I would think that I will probably see late arrivals here through the month of May. Maybe a little later. But I am not sure.
I am doing a lot of wishful thinking here, as I am probably jinked by trees and buildings, anyway. Next year will be a better one for me, as I'll be in a better location and will have a full year to prepare and play with new ideas.
Hope your Easter Sunday, tomorrow, is a great one with the family.
