status in SE Ohio

just wondering - This is my second year at trying - Is it time to open boxes yet - I have been playing the dawn song for about a week. when do I open box?

Please any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Laura. I'd say you need to get a couple open NOW. They're already into Michigan. Even though it's normally Sub adults who start new colonies, it's NOT always so. Occasionally folks move, and take their housing. Starlings and House Sparrows can overtake housing if it isn't cared for during the winter, early spring. Houses can get damaged in storms. All these factors make it possible to attract ASY, or Adult PMs. By having the house closed, up, you just turn away a possible start to your colony. At least get a couple of apartments open. Also, go to PMCA Scout Report page above, and click on your state. That may tell if there are any close to you. However, remember NOT all folks report PMs. CUL Lou

I have a couple of decoys up also - I placed them on the porches - should these be mounted on top of the box. I do not have a perching place on the box for them is this important????
