Some of these birds are probably roosting in your housing. You can't watch them every second, they slip in there. Remember that PMs roost in trees for more months per year than they roost in housing. They instinctively know they are more susceptible to predation bunched up in houses or gourds.

I think the number one rule of martineering should be:

Don't worry, be happy.

cotton,

I had around 7 pairs last year, 5 which were asy. I seen an asy male land on housing on the 7th. I thought where have you been and where are the rest? He was there for a few minutes then took off as to feed. Anyway he had returned a couple times but have not seen him land on house. I have been watching the houses right before dark as to think my colony should of been here. Right before dark I seen either an sy male/female or asy female sneak into the top compartment on my castle. I walked around back and was watching, could see a head sticking out of crescent. I went in and told my wife. She said, oh ya! I seen one go to that same spot a couple days ago. I have been watching pretty hard too. I think that martin may have been staying there during the last few nights. It was news to me! They can sneak it pretty fast just as its getting dark. If you blink you may not see them

I will check tomorrow night to see if she/he comes back!

Good luck!
