They arrived this morning, two ASY males and two sub-adult (I think) females. And get this. I'm pretty sure the one ASY male is the same one that lost his mate at my site last year to the snake attack. He acts just like him. He went directly to the same gourd (which I replaced with a new one exactly like the old one that had the snake) and has made it very obvious it is HIS. He is extremely aggressive, just like last year. He and his girlfriend have been going in and out of the gourd today. The other couple don't seem to have chosen a gourd or quad pod yet. They could have housing elsewhere. There are a lot of new or fairly new martin houses in our neighborhood now and I don't know if anyone has martins yet.
I am so happy and excited. I'm going to stay by the window to see if they stay the night. Maybe I can begin to grow my colony now since the subbies have yet to arrive. And you can be sure if they stay, that netting will go up as soon as the egg laying starts! Hopefully with a baffle AND netting, we'll be safe this time around.
Thanks for listening. Had to share it. Just hope I don't have to come back tomorrow and say they didn't stay. Say a prayer for me :-).
Thanks, Sharon
I Think I have Martins - Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sharon.
I share your excitement. This will be your year I believe. Subbies are just now starting to arrive in small numbers--along with every other kind of bird imaginable. The next month will bring many. May a good number find their way to your home.
Have a great season. John

I have two couples that came last week. A neighbor has had some for quite a while, but I have trees that are fairly close.

Thank you for the replies and the encouragement! None stayed last night but the male was back this morning. He was alone in the gourd for a while. Then he left and now he is back and has enticed a female inside with him :-). I hope this is it.

That great Sharon! I bet your guy did stay the night in his gourd. Sometimes it is just a minute before dark when they come in. Have a great year! Peggy
