Hi all. I have been super busy outside and haven't been here much but something happened today that I need advice with
If anyone remembers, a few weeks ago I posted I thought I saw a single male martin. Well, we were sitting on the back porch today approx 1 pm and down from the sky swooping around looked like FOUR pm's. I saw two males and two with greyish on the under bodies. Would they come four together?
I had the house up but all the holes closed because I have been fighting the sparrows. When they flew away, I quickly lowered the house and opened the entrances. They came back 30 minutes later!
They did not go in or anything but sat on top for a few minutes. I know it had to be martins because their song was so sweet and not CHEAP (no pun intended lol) like a sparrow
I have my camera outside and will wait til the sun starts going down to see if they are coming back
I was trying to keep sparrows away and did not notice them til today. Isn't it too late for them to be coming now? I will try and get a pic. What are my chances of them staying here even though I still have sparrows to get rid of sometimes?
thanks! I am so excited

I believe thats what your looking for!! They may be from another colony OR they may be back tonight. My mom got her first pair Friday night, hadn't seen any before. They came about an houe before sunset, landed, flew around awhile and went in for the night.... still there this morning and a ASY pair to boot. The SY should start showing up any day. Get ready for lots of racket!!
Good luck this year

Hey Birdlady
As I recall you were not sure you could ID a martin a few months ago. Now you know why we all love 'um so. Yes, they sometimes travel in small groups.
You need to keep the house open now, even if it means daily sparrow nest removal. Good luck to you.

I am now sure what they look like and I never heard a bird sound so pretty! I have a book on them and have been reading :-) I could not watch every minute last night so not sure if they came back
My sons brother in law is coming and he is a GREAT bird shooter. He promised to sit on my back porch next weekend and cure my s & S problem lol
I will keep you all posted
