NB Compact Question
I built a NB Compact trap this winter and have caught 16 Starlings to date. Now that nest building time is here for them I haven't seen any. Could I have caught all the "locals" already? Also I am thinking about painting some fake holes on the trap to make it look more inviting. What does everyone think? Thanks .

Gwarnerjr. Yes, it's entirely possible you have trapped all the "Locals." However, it's just like digging a hole in water. The water on the outer edges of the hole quickly fill the hole back in. Same thing with EHS and EUST. They quickly fill any voids. Especially if you quit trapping. As for the painting fake holes. Good idea. I believe that helps. I took a styrofoam coffee cup, cut the bottom out of it, and used that, and a spray can of black paint. Just set the cup (minus the bottom) against the house, give it a spritz or two of paint, and walla. Instant hole. All my housing is SREH, and I've seen I don't know how many EUST, try to get in. When they can't, I can nearly see them scratching their heads wondering "What the??" Then they look around, see that nice white house with the holes in it (My NB Compact trap) and head right over there. Since there's a nice porch, they land, look inside, look around, look inside again, then jump in. From there, it's all downhill for them. Good Luck on catching a bunch more. CUL Lou
