Well I new it would happen sooner or later. There has been a new influx of birds at my colony. They were very noisy all morning long when it became quite. I looked out not a bird in sight except for an immature coopers sitting on the fence. When he saw me, it quickly flew to the north.About an hour later , what I believe to be the same bird returned from the east
at full throttle and snaged a male over the open field behind my house..Most of the martins saw him comming, but this martin was on the west side of the house. When he left he was not at full speed and was quickly over taken by surprise..The hawk did not keep its catch, I couldn't help my self and went out side and caused him to drop the bird.It had landed in the field were it had caught the martin. The asy male was a beautiful bird.
When this happened I had to take my daughter for her swim lessons.I returned about two hours later, and it was like nothing had happend. In the distance by the highschool I could see two cooper hawks flying away from the colony. The martins were all over the gourds and houses. The pair of bluebirds that are nesting in the yard have babies and are busy feeding them all the time. All I know the hawk pressure has been tremendous this year, and this was the first kill I had seen ,and hopefully the last.......

Loco,
I wonder myself when I'll have my 1st attack. I went from 7pr in 05 to 8pr so far. Lots of noise and ruckus in the morning and evenings.
I'm sure its comming, sooner or later.

Sorry for your loss, man it hurts, kinda upsets you and ruins the whole day but sooner or later it happens to all of us landlord's ...it just goes w/ the territory. I pray no one has to go thru that feeling.

Well the days not over, but since this mornings successful attack there have been two more. One adult male coopers attacked from the north,it missed but I have a feeling my pressence in the yard helped. The other occured this afternoon. It was an immature female coopers that came in from the west. The martins saw her comming in .That is three different hawks for today. There were nine attacks last weekend,I have to live in some sort of migration rout or something..This is ridiculous, surprisingly even with all these attacks the martins still socialize around the housing most of the day..
