I'm happy to report that my wife has caused a neglicted colony site to get revitalized. She was teahing Safety Classes at the Landfill in Bath, NY and noticed a neglected, sparrow filled Martin House. She mentioned to one of the Supervisors that with a little effort they might be able to attract Purple Martins. The next day, to her surprise, she saw someone take the house down, clean it out and move it to a more open location. A fewday later she saw some blue bird houses that had been put up.
Just goes to show that if you lead a horse to water, it just might drink.
Once again, I'd like to encourage all to make the effort to adopt a colony at an open public, school or corporate site. Especially if you are one whose's on location is not quite right. Rather than abandon the housing to starlings and sparrows, see if you can place it at the local swan pond or whatever where the martins can use it and the public and enjoy it.

That's just great! You'll have to keep an eye on it and let us know how the season goes. Peggy
