Finally---a warm and sunny day in Missouri, and the PM's responded! About 9-12 new PM's arrived today -- All ASY and a good mix of males/females. I believe these are
some of my colony PM's by the way they are taking an in depth look at the housing set-up and flying close to the colony. The few scouts thus far sighted, took only a cursory look at my housing. Good to hear their great vocalizations and watch their flight patterns again. Weather sounds pretty good (at least not too cold) for the next several days. Might have a colony again this year.
Good luck to all!

Congrats on your first sighting, Bob! What do you mean you might have a colony again? What happened to it? Thanks John!

Saw two ASY males at a fire station today in central MO. First I've seen at that long time site.

Good to hear Bob.
Three martins now in Forest Park, St. Louis. We had 8 pairs last year, so hopeful about seeing more pour in next few days.

John A.,
Just joking John---I've been lucky (blessed) to continue to have a growing colony for 10+ years now. Weather in Missouri has been tough on all migrating birds the last several weeks---below normal temps, wind, snow and rain --- yuk! Looks like the PM's will start to return in this neck of the woods if the weather continues to be more normal. Several southern state have recently posted that PM's are starting to fly throught their states at a good clip. That should mean a pick-up in PM's coming to the midwest in a few more days. Good luck!

Bob, congratulation's on all your arrivals. I had an ASY female arrive on March 10th and she was alone until the March22 when an ASY male arrived. I have picked up 9 martins in the past couple of day's. Good luck this year.

Hello from St. Charles, MO
It's good to hear the positive updates from you local neighbors. I just opened my house for the first time in six years. We moved to the present address six years ago. At the previous address I had 3 pair. After reading the forum I have converted my Trio Granpa to the larger compartments, added cressent entrances, and added traction tape in front of those entries. Also added a couple Super gourds with cresent entries. So for I haven't seen any PMs. If you guys and gals have any other suggestions I'd gladly listen. Good luck to yall.

Tobit,
I would suggest several round hole entrance holes, especially while starting a new colony. Some pine needles (white pine) are also a help. Some older colonies are in your area which should help you get started. Keep your site "open" and free of s&s, and you should be on your way! Good luck and keep us posted.

Tobit, If you can get the Dawnsong CD or tape and play it as loud as you can early morning and before sundown (or any other time during the day if you can). It will bring them in for a look. Good luck! Dennis
