I switched my remaining vertical gourds to starling-resistant entrance holes this past Saturday morning. I did this per the advice of many respected landlords on this forum , and also because of a very persistent pair of starlings.
I had not been able to see how the switch affected them until last night. I guess between Saturday morning and Monday evening they figured it out because they had no problem going in the entrances. Maybe it was a good thing that I was not around to see them become acclimated to these new openings. All of them have porches so maybe that helped.
Thanks again for the advice and hopefully this will assist those contemplating making the switch to modified entrances.

Kenneth,
Good to hear you took it to a higher level! Your martins are now much safer and hopefully your colony will flourish. Have a great season!

Dale,
I appreciate the message. I must admit I feel a lot better about having the modified entrances on all gourds. I have not seen any starlings in the past few days so maybe they got the hint.
Here's to your success this season,
Kenneth
