Anyone know the status of PM in SW MO? I'm a third year (if they show) Landlord but have had any birds return yet.

Ozarks,

You can check the scout report on this website for reports for your area. Good luck.

I'm not in SW Missouri, But SE Kansas and have not had any returns and I'm in my 12th year....it's still a little early and with the cold snap, they may have decided to slow it down a little. Mine last year arrived April 3 - plus if everyone South of us keeping throwing them crickets and eggs, why would they want to hurry up here. Just keep getting everything ready and keep waiting, they'll show up.

Thanks Kimball911, I was thinking it was just a little early. I do have everything ready and waiting.

Patrick, I have been looking at the scout report that is why I'm on here asking. It shows that the PM's are in this area, but I have yet to see one.

I'm in Southwest Mo. I live just north of Webb City. I have around 20
martins now. I did have 25 roosting as of last week before the cold
weather moved in. But I found 2 dead ASY males in one of the houses. I'm not sure that they died from starvation though. It looked as though
they had been fighting as there were a lot of loose feathers laying in the
nest. I haven't had a chance to look at all of the gourds yet so don't know
where the other 3 birds may have went. I have some major back problems so it takes me a while to get around. I do good to get everything in place every year for the birds, but I'll do my best as long as
I can. Best of luck to you there in Springfield

GOD BLESS

Ozarks, just to let you know...still nothing in SE Kansas. I actually went to a few other sights around the area and nothing in them either. Maybe tomorrow. It's kind of like waiting for Santa...you know that whatever he brings you it will be good and worth the wait.

If I'm remembering right didn't the PM's make it to the Webb City area first the last ffew years?

Kimball911, Maybe the PM's comming to our areas are right behind the Webb City PM's

I sure hope so

We live West of Warrensburg Mo..and we too have been concerned that we have only seen one Martin before the cold snap. I've opened up just 2 holes in each Trio house...and spend all my time cleaning out sparrows! We had a bad bout with a racoon last spring and are hoping the colony we have had for 5 years returns again. Every spring I add one more house to accomodate the new ones. I now have 5 -12 unit houses. What an awesome sight when they are occupied. Maybe this week with the 60's predicted they will all return. We are anxiously waiting their return :) :)

Billie,

If you are having problems with sparrows, I recommned the trap PMCA sells that is spring loaded. I bought it, strap it to the PM pole, glue some feathers to a small block and catch every sparrow in the hood.

As far as I can tell everything is just about as normal as it was before
the cold weather here at my sight. It is right around 60 deg and the martins are very active today. You should start seeing some activity in
your area pretty soon. I wish you the best of luck!!

I wonder if all the wind there has been might be playing a role in the PM's return? I would think that the insects aren't flying in it so the PM's wont be able to eat.
