Robert, Yep, that looks like him..But did you read that article? It was very funny! It's obvious the writer knew nothing of crawfishing, and was reporting legends or something. A crawfish is not big enough to "Hunt" with a spear. They are caught in net traps baited with meat by-products or fish. If one gets your fingers, it can hurt a good bit. Maybe even draw blood, if they are fresh out of the water, and strong. But a set of cloth work gloves are enough protection.
Maybe the legendary "CRAWDAD" was that big and mean. Snaps off whole fingers at one time? Ouch! I'm glad they died out when the first europeans arrived. I'd never go near a stream if I was a native american.
Now, I've never heard of a SPOONDOG. We call them Mudbugs in South Louisiana.

Crawdad is the one in the holes I caught with my Grandmas bacon. I seem to remember that there were also some in the tank - or pond or stocktank if thats what you call them.
Crawfish are the ones I ate or will eat.
Hey Rob, you forgot the familt/species/order/genus on that flat head, which are called mudcats here!!!

Yeah!! I think I have Chipping sparrows. I must admit I'm relieved. I'm so new to this. I'm having a hard time committing to killing the ES. Don't bash me yet. Give me time. I will be a committed landlord. I don't have martins yet but when I do, I know I will get attached and will do whatever it takes. So far, I haven't seen any ES at my feeders or houses but I know they are lurking and waiting.
And I did order me some bird books to have on hand. So much to learn!!!
BTW - what a "rabbit chasing" thread this was. I think you people love controversy.

say cw550405,
Is there any PM LandLord's close to you in your area that could give you a hand with the sparrow's and such to get you started on the right track??, or maybe a close Neighbor that can help you deal w/ the issue. We are not giving up on you because we landlords know that once you fall in Love w/ the PM's you will protect them at all costs.
