It's been a couple of weeks John. Last week was pretty cold and I am sure things shut down. This week the gates should open again. Let me know what you are seeing on the coast.

bumping again.

I wonder if this week's scheduled rain will cause them to stall again this week.

Hi Friends.

We had some moderate sized arrivals early in the week but the extreme weather pretty much shut that down. Early last week I thought some martins were coming in from Mexico-overland- but have seen nothing more to reinforce this. Also the small influx of subbies has stopped. I have yet to see a subbie male that I could positively identify at either of my sites.

The weather this past week has been the only glitch in the easiest year of migration that I have ever seen. I suspect many fly way beyond the coast riding strong southerly breezes, which incidentally are back today. We are not seeing fallouts and arrivng martins look healthy. My earliest subbies usually arrive around April 1, and I think that will be the case this year. After that, subbie arrivals will peak around April 10-15 with them pouring in from the south by the thousands.

What we can expect over the next 4 weeks is sustained migration of hundreds of thousands of martins. Most 2 year olds and 99% of the subbies have yet to enter the country. Many established colonies are almost full and many of those to come will be searching for housing.

Best wishes to all who wait and hope. john

Thanks for the report John. I had 3 ASY males & 2 ASY females looking into gourds and singing all day saturday. Sunday(today) only one ASY male was here for part of the day. I really can't tell if they are house hunting, migrating through, or are just day visitors from a nearby colony.

Thanks, John. I enjoy your reports. This weekend I had a ASY male and female show up. My year has begun.

We all do appreciate your updates, John! I had 12 new arrivals the latter part of last week. I knew they were new arrivals because they spooked when I walked out onto the deck. Our colony birds just look at me and continue with their activities.
