How are ya'll holding up today? The PMs sat outside most the morning until the last monsoon hit. They'd fly around every once in a while, now back in their housing.
I've had 4" of rain up til now.... the Arlington River is deffinatly running thru my back yard now!!! If it keeps up, I'm taking off work tomorrow to see if I can toss crickets or eggs.

Chuck,

I've seen my martins twice since Friday, both perched on a porch between showers. Mine are staying holed up in the compartments. This rain is something else! I'm ready for the drought to end but not all in one weekend!!...Hang in there, or should I say, tread water. Monday promises clearer weather.

Guys,

I saw many of my martins out and about this morning in between rain storms. If the weathermen are right, we should see an end to the rain by Monday morning, with windy and much warmer temps (low 70s) tomorrow afternoon giving the martins a decent chance to catch some grub. Should be fairly cool the following 2 days but warm enough for bugs to fly. If they are wrong, I will be ready to help out our little purple pals.

Chuck,

Believe it or not, as I'm writing this there are several out flying around. There are about five sitting around. It is still raining ,but it's not the monsoon it was earlier.I have a huge flock of redwing-cowbird-common grackles in the backyard feeding, along with about thirty doves .They have been here all day.Ther were also a few starlings in the the yard seeking cover, I felt so bad for them I left my beeman in the closet.I just saw a a very wet coyote cross the mash that use to be field behind my house just now.The martins look fine. When the rain comes down hard, they seek shelter. When it lets up they they come out for poop flights and to socialize.
I feel they will be just fine until tommorrow morning when the monsoon moves east..

Hey Guys,

Mine are finally back out flying now. Maybe, I can go empty the rain gauge now. My neighbor next door left a bunch of junk in his yard, so the water was going over the retaining wall into ours. About the only time we had that much water was last year when the big storm hit.
Loco, are you by Webb Lynn Park? Thats about the only "land" left around here..... hopefully, we can move in a couple more years when all the lands gone!!! Hate settin up new digs for the PMs though.

Chuck,

I live right next to Juan Segun Highschool..I don't know how many acres
it is located on,but it is alot......So I have the school on one side and on the next I have some agriculture land...there is also a creek about five hundred yards behind my house. This location is fantastic for wildlife. The only thing I have not seen is a fox.Four years ago, I put up my first house
in late April and was fourtunate to get one pair of martins. They fledge five on the Fourth of July. This would be a the perfect location if there was a lake or pond next door. The bad side about this location is all the predators.I have them all and then some. This is great cooper hawk habitat, and my great fear would be for a pair to set up shop near the creek.I know they are suppose to migrate north, but I have seen them here in the summer, although they were immature birds..ps. it' raining again.......

My martins finally made an appearance this afternoon during a break in the rain with a lot of fanfare and excitement. It wasn't long, though, before their mood changed as they became wet and bedraggled. Some of them perched on the houses and others on the perching station in the rain. I guess they just had to get out of those compartments for a while. Severe weather is a possibility for tonight so I guess this storm isn't going to move out without a bang. I'm ready for some sunshine tomorrow. I can only imagine how much more ready the martins are. Hang in there, everybody. This, too, shall pass.

Hey Loco, your right around the corner from me!! I'm 3 block from JS off Harris. Maybe the fox I saw last year was from your parts!! Finally emptied the rain gauge before dark.... 5" and it's still raining. I won't complain, lots of lakes are low. The City I work for just started a voluntary water restriction....... Arlington won't be far behind!!
