I have decided. I am cutting back about fifty compartments in my main cluster. This cutback will consist of three gourd racks and one Bo Villa setup.
I am doing this for two reasons. I was getting an awful lot of birds in that cluster, it was very near full up last year.
1. I think I was keeping birds from nesting where I want them most. I am hoping they will just move up the lane to some of my other housing.
2. I am afraid I am bothering good neighbors. I have good neighbors and wish to keep them that way.
I will still have over sixty compartments in that cluster. Just up the lane are plenty of other nest possibilities. It is not like they will be left without a home, if they want one.
It really was hard not to put them back up. In fact, I did put up a couple of the racks, then lowered them and removed the gourds.

Ouch! That had to have been a painful decision to make, but I applaud you for doing it for all the right reasons!

May you have a wonderful season with all your remaining housing.

Thurman, I feel you did the right thing... Good neighbors are hard to find. Must have been hard though.

I think your Martins will move down the lane... I doubt you'll lose any.

Thurman. I don't see how any of your birds could possibly decide to move on to another place. After all, there aren't a whole lot of landlords like you are. However, if any of them do decide to move on, I hope a couple pairs decide to move up to Lowell, Mich. I'd sure try my best to treat them right. CUL Lou

It's good to see you realize the entire PM colony situation. I would be lying if I said I did not want a super colony --- but NOT where I currently reside. Like you, I have neighbors, close neighbors --- with a swimming pool! Life---it's a compomise :-(
