I reported seeing my first birds on the 5th, they did a lot of flying over the lake, hunting. They appeared for three days and then suddenly are gone. I haven't seen any Martins in three days. Were these passing through, this has never happened before in previous years. They are not high in the sky but the weather has gotten better and I thought today we would see more than usual. The temperatures are in the 70s and it's bright but not sunny.
What's going on??
Any opinions?

Larry,
Do you think we have cause to worry or do you think they were passing through for more Northern areas. I thought we would get a few more opinions about this subject; I don't know how to get answers to this one.
Today is the 13th and I still have not seen anymore, I'm getting very concerned.
What do you think?

Hello Jayne,
I live in York County and I haven't seen any martins at the established colonies around my house. I spent a lot of time looking up over the weekend but nothing. My neighbor has had a colony for close to 20 years and his haven't returned.

Jayne,
The 1st several weeks of scout reports are very "fickle". PM's will often come and go during this "early" period. It's great to see your 1st PM at your sight each spring, but I've learned not to put much into their crazy coming and going. In several more weeks, the PM's will start to stay (roost) on a permanent basis--- these will be "your" PM's. I think the very early sightings may well be PM's heading farther north for the year and only look at a sight out of curosity, or for a short breather before continuing north. Relax --- good PM management will suceed. Good luck!

Had 4 come in this morning and go into the gourds ,didn't even look around at the different ones .I am guessing that is the ones they used last year. And no I don't feel that it is anywhere time to get concerned.

Larry,
With the warm/hot weather that we have been having and all of the reports of birds to the south you would think they would be riding the southerly winds. It will be interesting to see what happens by the end of the week.
