I have a Bluebird pair that have claimed a gourd on one of my poles. I think they're the same ones that were building in my BB box but had a starling intrude on them mid-construction.. Looks like they've abandoned it even tho the offending starling has since been ventilated and will do no further harm to anyone.

What do ya think I should do? I have more 2 BB boxes built, but not installed. Think I should install them even tho their locations won't be easy to "defend"?

Ian,

A starling should not be able to enter a 1.5" BB hole. Why not open the box where they were building and adjust the hole size down to 1.5" if it was larger than that. Hosp are usually the only troublemakers when doing BBs. For them, plan to install a sparrow spooker once the first egg is laid. Let me know if you can't find out how to do this and I will send you the link. Good luck,

I was mistaken. This is a second pair of BBs apparently. I think I'm going to put up a new BB box and block the opening of the gourd the new pair is using. Maybe I'll put any nest material I find in the gourd in the new house.
