On Thursday the 9th, during very high winds mid-day, I saw my first two ASY's of the year. Then by dusk, I had another, making two males and one female at my colony. I knew right away they were mine as they went to the old, rusty gourd rack with plastic supergourds instead of my new shiny racks with freshly prepared natural gourds.

A good thing they made it when they did, as just a few hours later, we had a horrible squall of thunderstorms move through, but my ASY's were safe in their gourds.

I talked with a friend from E-Town, KY yesterday, and he had a couple of martins that returned right before our conversation. I have also noticed a few reports all around Kentucky including John & Linda's from Hawesville.

Then today, I noticed another pair at my site. So it seems at the moment I have two pair of ASY's along with a lone male. Next Tuesday, it does suppose to get down to a high of 47 degrees, but Tuesday is surrounded by days of predicted highs of 71 and 57, so our martins should be fine in Kentucky.

So look out Indiana, Ohio, West Va and Pennslyvania. They are on the way!

One male ASY showed up yesterday here at my place in Richmond and was still here today, He was hanging out at the old rack too. I didn't see him visit the 2 new racks or the new pole for the old house. I put them up before the end of the season last year, so he should have remembered them if he was here then.
