I was wondering if any of ya'll have trouble with starlings building in your Troyers. I have a Lone Star gourd rack with 8 vertical gourds and 4 Troyers. Also, I have 4 Troyers underneath my Quad Pod housing. It is these 4 underneath the housing where I am seeing starling activity. I am considering moving these 4 over to the gourd rack with the other gourds because all of the martin activity has been on the gourd rack. There are currently 7 or 8 martins at the gourd rack and my thought is that maybe the starlings will be less likely to build there. Call it strength in numbers.

You never mentioned what type entrances you have on your troyers. If you don't use some type SREH, you're asking for trouble. Starlings love the Troyer gourd. I use WDC entrances on my Troyers and it keeps out all the flying rats....

The openings are the round entrances. Is there any way to modify the round entrance on a troyer ?

Kenneth,

I have the same problem with one of my sites, and I use all crescent entrances. Last year I had starlings continue to figure out the crescent entrances on the Troyers.

This year I purchased a new excluder entrance (sold by the Birds Paradise) that you slip into the end of a Troyer gourd after you saw the current entrance off. I will see how that works this year.

Kenneth,
Like you , I also had alot of S&S problems w/ the round hole entrances at my site but since i made the switch to all sreh's several year's ago I now don't have that problem anymore, in answer to your question , try to convert all that you can to the sreh's , you should be able to get some help converting from someone at the pmca or contact Sandy Bunn who makes a product that should work for your situation.

I hope this post helps you

Kenneth,
We have the horizontals under our quad pod housing and have the specially made tunnel entrances for them with the WDC opening. I have seen starlings try several times to get in and they have been unsuccessful. The openings are also made by Andy Troyer.
