1. Took vacation from work. That gives me 4 days off.
2. Took out one starling early. Now there is only on left that won't go in the trap.
3. Observed 2 males and 1 female PM checking out my house for the third day.
4. Took grandson to Radioshack and purchased powerhorn and 100 ft. of speaker wire.
5. Hooked up grandsons new portable DVD player to an amplifier and tested dawnsong. Sounds good.
6. Waited for bad weather to blow through. Took nap while grandson watched movie.
7. Weather cleared about an hour before dark. Sun came out.
8. Played CD and about 6-7 martins came and circled around for a good while.
9. Grandson said when he goes back to Texas, he has to take DVD player with him :-(

Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas

Sounds like a nice vacation...you really don't need the grandsons equipment...if you have a nice open site without trees nearby, the martins will find it without a doubt, and they will nest there...on the other hand, if your site is full of trees, they will probably not nest there. We spend a lot of time with our martins, watching them, observing their behavior, and it is so enjoyable..they are truely a notch above other birds, we like them so much. If you do attract this magnificant bird, keep out the starlings and sparrows, snakes, etc and you will become a fanatic about your martins like so many of us are..good luck
