Chet,
You are 'BAD'
But I will say that back when PMCA ran a campaign to raise funds to erect more fencing at the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway Bridge (some fencing was up but more was needed to prevent martins at the roost from being killed by traffic), we received more responses from San Antonio than any other city in the US.
I think that was due in large part to the incredible support martins and PMCA always got from the late Maury Maverick, columnist for the Express-News. He dedicated a column to martins every year, urging people to put up and manage housing, and to join PMCA. He also did some columns about the roost at the Causeway. Maury was one of the best friends the martins ever had. I think the dedicated landlords on the forum are all doing the same thing for martins in their own way.
I sure wish JB & I were going to be in Marion this Saturday - I know you are all going to have a wonderful time and a great program.

I KNOW that Seguin, Texas is the Purple Martin capital of Texas, AND the North American continent, AND, that TEXAS is the Purple Martin's favorite state because we host these magical birds so well
San Antonio has the Spurs and the Alamo and rodeos, but Seguin is it for Purple Martins Nation-WIDE

While this post was started with some good ol Texas bravado, Louise is right, the reason that the San Antonio area has so many landlords is because information was presented to the public. Maury Maverick Jr's columns in the local paper got the word out. Ask yourself, "What am I doing to pass the knowlage of being a responsible landlord to others?" Sure it's fun to discuss new products and inform others on this fourm who already have an interest, But think of all you could do to spread the rewarding feelings of being a landlord to others not yet familiar with martins!
Write a column for your local paper, put on the PMCA slide show, share with others at work, church or other groups, in short "get the word out."
Be proud of that Texas bravado, be proud of your purple passion, and most importantly...Be a Maverick

San Antonio? That part of the USA? I thought you guys gave up that place to the Mexicans and got Davy Crockett killed while doing so.

I didn't know Davy Crockett died at the Alamo...I thought he made it out and lived long enough to play his own part in the Disney movies in the 1950's.
I've still got my coonskin hat around here somewhere....Seriously, I thought San Antone was famous for the "Final Four"

Perhaps Ol' Davy came here looking for Purple Martins
We certainly are spoiled for martins in this part of the world, I expect you could put up a shoe box here and get martins in it. Exactly how much of this present phenomenon we owe to the efforts of the worthy Mr Maverick I dunno.
Anyways, I figure the REAL Purple Martin capital is likely wherever the science of martineering has been advanced the most. Edinburg must be a front-runner, so must the individual cities of those who have developed the advanced housing and entrance types we enjoy today.
