Hello Everyone,
I finally got an ASY male to stay the night!!!!! I was outside last night putting on new perches on the Deluxe Gourd Rack and the Multi-purpose Pole that holds my Trio houses! So, I didn't see or hear any martin(s) as I was working for 2 hours before dusk! But tonight I went out to put the Dawnsong CD on about 5:15 P.M. and went inside and turned around and looked back out through the screen door at the site to see out of the corner of my eye, an ASY male going to the Troyer Gourd and hung there for a couple of seconds and flew to the top perch of the trio house on the multi-purpose pole. He sat there for 5 minutes and then I went to move some dirt from a pile from digging a hole for the Deluxe Gourd Rack which was about 10 feet away from where he was. Then he flew around for about 5 minutes and chirped and went to a hole on the bottom of the trio house on the multi-purpose pole! I did notice this morning about 7:00 A.M. when I went out to put the Dawnsong on, I saw an ASY male flying overhead. So I'm wondering if he might of came in this morning! But for the last 2 weeks I saw martins come and go without staying all night, so this is the first! But also I was wondering if this is a new martin because I thought they go to the same gourd or compartment from last year from having a successful nest? He went to the new multi-purpose pole I put up new this year! What do you all think of this? Thanks and I will keep you all posted! John! P.S. I will check for the next couple of days to see if he stays or moves on north! John!

Hey John. That's cool. Sounds like you're picking them right out of the sky. ha ha. Since it's a new pole, thus new house, I'd say this guy must have lost his housing from last year, and he's looking for a new home. Either that, or he knows it's cold further North, and sticking around your place till it warms up. I'd rather bet on him being comfortable at your place, and probably going to stay. Please do keep us updated. CUL Lou

Hello Everyone,
Well guess what? He came back to the same house on the same pole and stayed the night again!!!!! Night #2!!! If he is around tomorrow night then he will be staying indifinitely! Or he could be going north tomorrow because of the high 70's and warmer south winds coming in! That would mean more flocks of martins coming in! I'm keeping my fingers cross! Thanks John!

don't get too excited yet, i have had 2 episodes this year of asy males staying for 3 to 5 days and leaving.
the first episode two asy males took up in my site and stayed until an asy female came along! they followed her across the street to my father in laws house never to return.

2 weeks later an asy pair took up residence, stayed 2 nights and then left
me wimpering and cussing.

i have a great site but it is only in it,s second year.
i am now watching a new crop of fresh birds in the area but wont get excited until i see a week of residence.

Hello Bailey,
I know what you mean now! I didn't see him roost tonight and I did see him on the house today and around the house at 5:30 P.M. so I don't know where he went! But I'm not getting too excited either! Thanks John!
