Meem----- It's gonna get cold
But, the Martins have been feeding everyday, so, I'm not worried. The numbers here were 22 + whoever snuck in early while I was in the house. Counting is getting difficult
Also, some of the males may have moved on, had a higher female presence than before
Good luck

This far south it seems like we lose martins to the cold less often than folks up north. As John has observed it seems the recent arrivals are most vulnerable, those that have just migrated in arriving with already depleted fat reserves.
It would be useful to know how just how much fat our early arrivals can put back on this early in the season, and how much they lose each day of bad weather.
Say, ain't there digitzed scales now small and sensitive enough that you could hang 'em on a pole and hang a gourd from 'em?
Hmmm.... projects, projects.....

Thanks Tony, I hope this weekend weather is the last of the cold stuff. I am really having to fight sparrows all of a sudden. Guess they can tell it is going to freeze. Also, my neighbor doesn't like the vocalization my pm's make and she puts out feeders for the
sparrows. I had an experience last week. I was putting the house up and some how it didn't catch and boom it fell on my head. Good thing I am a squareheaded dutchmen, it just took off a couple of my corners.... Ha Ha.
