I was at Home Depot the other day looking for the construction adhesive to install an Entrance by Sandy and an S&K access port in a beautiful natural gourd that I was given. My lexel had dried up and they were out of the usual so I picked up a tube of Liquid Nails- Premium Ultra duty POLY in the gold and black tube. It's an interior/exterior polyurethane Construction adhesive-- all weather.
On the back it actually states that it is recommended for bonding Plastic and Vinyl. I gave it a try and I am VERY happy with the results so far. The nozzle is precut at an angle and the opening is rather large so it lays down quite a thick bead of adhesive. I had no problem smoothing the bead with the tip of an old walmart plastic bag on my finger like a glove. I put the gourd in the shed to dry and left it for a couple of days since my schedule didn't allow me the time to work on it the next day. The adhesive dried smooth, firm and hard. I can't twist the entrance or access port even a fraction. I am getting ready to apply my first coat of paint so I will let you know how it handles that. Hopefully I will be able to report at the end of the season how it held up. As for now... it looks like another good/great product for securing ports and entrances.
Just thought I'd share that with everyone.

Hello

I've been using this too, but let's give it a good full season of testing. I like that it's less fumy (glue smell) to work with than the "PPL" brand of polyurethanre construcion adhesive." I have found it's hard to get an oil-based paint to dry on top of it, but that may be true of PPL brand as well. With either one, rubber gloves are important for me as I always end up using my fingers to smoot things out.

John ,
I will be interested in hearing how it works out for you. I used an exterior latex and it painted just fine. I also found that it washed off the skin a little easier than the lexel and the PPL.

I was at a salvage store and they had it for $1.50 so I got a couple of tubes to try it on the floors for traction and mounting end caps in the tubes. I am conserned about the pre cut nozzle it is larger than I like and plugging it can be a problem, the PPCA nozzle can be cut as you like and using a nail or screw to plug it works great it can be used easily after weeks of non use. With all of us trying it we should have some good info for next year.
