Tyler,
At this sight this will be my fourth year. 1st year 0 pairs, 2nd year 3 pairs, 3rd year 16 pairs. I have had martins on and off for about twenty five years. I credit the Forum and all of the knowledgeable people for getting me on the right track.

- Martin Colony History: Erected 1st house in 1997. Birds were checking it out before Mike got down from the ladder. Six cavities had a little colony 1st year. Grown to 88 cavities all gourds with near 100% occupancy. Most important factor for success is rain = bugs.
Hi Tyler and everybody else, too...
Mike and I have been hosting a Purple Martin colony at our present site since February 1997. So, that makes the Oak Shadows Colony 9 this year.
By the way, we had an overnight visitor last Friday night. But, he moved on after getting a good night's rest - my birds aren't back yet... I am anxiously awaiting their arrival.
Best wishes to all for a successful season. I am so proud and happy for each of you.
Sincerely,
Laverne

Hi,
I had 1 pair in 2004 prior to joining the PMCA. I had 12 pairs in 2005 and hopefully more in 2006. I have kept adding housing and if all goes well and I get my T-14 built in time, I will have enough housing for 48 pairs. I have also added bat nursery housing for 500 bats and 2 bluebird houses.

I have had martins since 1970 while living in Shreveport,La . I moved back to Texas in 1995 and started a colony here where i live in Grand Prairie,Tx ,I was doing good and successful until my colony was wipped out and i had to start all over again in 2001, i made House changes , added a Gourd Rack and some s&S repeating traps and now i'm successful again.

Hi,
This my second year as a landlord at my home. I had 6 nesting pairs, 5 of which fledged chicks. So far this year I have 1 male and 3 females. I have a new 24 gourd rack to add to my 12 gourd rack. I am expecting a good turn out! Just waiting for the rest to show up.
At work I started putting up Martin houses last year and we also had 6 pairs, all of which fledged young. I had 96 compartments available last year and I am adding 54 more compartments this year! My compartments so far are outstripping my tenants. But I am an optimist with big plans.

Started trying in 2003 but uneducated with housing in bad location; zero Martins. Found this forum and PMCA so moved housing to good location in 2004; one SY male resident and a late-arriving ASY pair that didn't finish a nest before leaving. Moved housing to the most open area on my property in 2005; five pair with four pair that fledged young. Hopeing to double that number this year.

Last year was my first year as a landlord. After trying for 11 years, all of a sudden last year I ended up with 6 nests and 26 fledglings.
