AP,

John phoned that report in. He saw 3 adult birds, 2 were males, on his gourd rack. It's been drizzly all day on and off, and we sure need all the rain we can get, but not too much action on the migration front. We are still waiting for martins here in Corpus.

My gut feeling says that with tuesday and/or wednesday's big south winds prediction that we will start to see more migration movement.

Hi Friends,
While I expect isolated arrivals of martins along the mid-south Texas coast to pick up this week, I have seen nothing that would indicate that a large general arrival that affects the entire coast will occur early this year. That would mean the first would likely occur around the middle of Feb. and I will certainly report it when it occurs.
Over the weekend in Port O'Connor, I observed one group of swallows feeding northward on the Guadalupe River that contained a few martins. I believe the only martins in Port O'Connor were the 3 that I saw-one of which-a male- is using a porched WDC entry natural horizontal gourd at my colony. I think the male and female he was interacting with are the pair that were reported at Ed Adam's colony earlier in the week. My male was trying to lure the female into his system, but as of Saturday she is sticking with the other male. All are in good physical shape and I expect they will lure many migrating martins into our systems which will enable us to view and report significant migratory action.
I left Port O'Connor before dawn Sunday morning to meet a photographer who was photgraphing banding of wintering hummingbirds near Victoria, TX. It was unusually foggy Sunday morning, but cleared off in mid-morning and it is possible that a few more isolated arrivals occured in advance of the weak frontal system that has blown through this morning. I expect maritns to arrive at my colony in Corpus Christi any day now. I did see a PM migrtating over CC on 1/22; however, I am only posting 1st arrivals that occur at my colony on the scout report.

Please be patient folks. In another 2-3 weeks martins will begin pouring into the area and spreading northward throughtout the country.
