We have a new T-14 house this year, the holes are 2" but I put a piece of wood to make the hole 1", half round. Is this too small for the martins to use? It looks small looking up at the house??

Thanks for your help, Maggie

The martins cannot get into that size hole....A lot of testing has been done to try to make the holes so martins can get in, but starlings cannot get in...I would recommend that you purchase some of them, or at least, make them exactly like they should be if you have the proper tools...Your method will not work

Maggie, Do a search (above) on Sreh's. There are a few different types. Crescents (half Moons), Excluder's, Modified Excluder's (WDC's) and obround. They are called Starling Resistent Entry Holes (sreh's). You will have to cut out your 2" round holes to fit the type of sreh plates you want and screw them over the expanded hole. As Email says they have to be the proper size to work. You will also get some instructions with the ones you order for PMCA I think. I'll post my Overlay of the different types of sreh's over a round hole and you can see you will have to cut the round hole out to fix the new openings over them.
