This is an easy entrance for me to make, a tunnel entrance for natural or plastic gourds...I bought a 6ft cedar fence board, it is very lightweight, about 5/8in thick, ripped it to 2-3/4in wide, cut it up into 6in long pieces. Then I put a split piece of 3in lightweight S&D pvc pipe over it. I put a notch on each side of the cedar board so that the pvc pipe would snap into the groove..This photo shows it without an entrance. An entrance of choice can be added with PVC cement..
The pvc pipe is held in place with ppca adhesive, but the gourd will also help hold it it place on one end, and on the other end, the entrance plate will help hold it in place. I also fill in around the cling plate with ppca to make the tunnel waterproof, all water should run out of the front of the tunnel.
Here are some nice things about this entrance: flat floor, easy to make, low cost, martins should love wooden floors, an entrance can be added with pvc cement, all parts readily available, and I like to work with wood...
