Growing Gourds

When growing gourds, do they prefer to be on the ground, or do they like to climb. Is it true that in the garden with squash is not a good idea?

Gourds will go over anything in their way. They covered my fence, my berry patch, my tomato cages, my peach trees. I found out in a hurry that you need lots of room..
Some people like them on old trees or fences...I like them on the ground so thats up to you..I am not sure what they like..ha ha
About squash, I am not sure, but they may cross polinate but that would probably only affect next years crop in my opinion..I always raise squash and gourds in the same garden, and I never saw a problem..
