Just a reminder to start saving those egg shells from Saturday morning breakfast. I finally offered them last year, and to those of you who don't, you wouldn't believe how they go after them-in particular the females. I just got little cedar hanging feeding trays from Wal-Mart and hung them beneath the houses. It turned out to be quite the social gathering spot.

Hello J Gragg,
Thanks alot for the info and I will be giving out osyter shells for the first time and you gave me such a great idea on how to put or hang a feeder! I'm excited to see what the martins will do when they see the shells! Thanks again! John!

J Gragg, I have never hung them under a house, but it does sound like a good idea. I think I will put a tray full above the arms that hold my gourds, the tray could be tied up there very easily. It sure would be handy for them, and if it ever requires me to feed them, they may find the food there very quickly..Thank you for the idea, I think that is an excellent piece of info..........

This may be better than an eggshell feeder 20 or 30ft away

I have my better half sewing up a square, of light weight canvas. Four ties between the arms that hold my gourds will be great. Just above the gourds and a tad below ground floor, of my house. The bar stools are handy to all. Keep talking...you folks are great!

Can you remind me of how to prepare the eggshells? Seems like I remember something about baking them?

Thanks

I put mine in a microwave for a while, its hard to tell you how long because of different volumes that you will put in when you nuke them..If they start turning brown, you left them in there a bit too long...If you try the oven, 350deg will usually kill anything, so when the eggshells reach that temp, they should be ok to kill the salmonella..
