Hi all my Martin friends!

Well, I've finally solved my housing dilemma..... I have 2 homes and was planning on moving back to my other one and renting this one out.... but that would have meant relocating my Martin setup. I have been very distressed with that thought.

Now I'm getting someone to share my present home and am setting the other home up as a Seniors Group Home. I will hire some help and will be going back and forth between the two. (It's just 1/2 mile away.)

I will leave my present colony as it is and start a new colony at the other location. Sooooooo..... Hopefully, I'll have TWO COLONIES!!!!

I want to add to the quality of life for these elderly people and I think they'll love the Martins..... I also have a wonderful Border Collie who will make a great Pet Therapy dog.

I think I'll hang a 12 gourd rack.... Play the Dawnsong and see what happens.

That's a great idea Barb. Another home for the martins and making people happy at the same time.

Had a border collie that died about 9 years ago and I still miss that old dog. He lived to be 18 and was the best dog I ever had. Extremely smart dogs.

Good luck on your new adventure.

Hi Barb,

With your houses that close together I would expect that it should not take very long to attract martins to the new sight. Wish you the best of luck with it.

Yes, Elyas, Freckles is very smart and very loving. She's not quite 4 years old. I'm not really a dog person, but I'm crazy about her! She knows my every move and sometimes I think she can read my mind. She will enjoy the attention the Seniors will give her and I'm sure they will enjoy her!

Thanks, Dale. I'm happy I came up with the perfect solution!

Hello Barb,
You know, I alway's told my wife that she is very smart and all women are smart too!! HA! HA! But I won't let her know that all the time!!!! HA! But you sure made a smart choice about the elder home that you made for them in the other house! And for them to watch martins too! Wow! I'm in the healthcare field and help take care of some of the elderly in some of the homes and it makes me sad to see family drop them off and don't even come back to check on them! They are sad and it shows in the eyes! To have someone like you who care's and teach and show them this wonderful bird and hobby will be the best present of all! And you will get the best reward of all! God Bless You Barb! And let me know how it goes with your new site and the site with the wonderful elderly gals! Thanks John!

Thanks, John. I have friends who are helping me get the house readied... and an ad in the paper starting next week. Plan to open Feb 1.

I'm really excited about this. I'm a RN but am tired of working for everyone else and really enjoy just being at home... so this should be ideal.

I agree..... Elderly people often lose quality of life towards the end and live just waiting (and often wanting) to die. I think I can make life better for a few of them. Hopefully, when it's my turn, someone else will do the same.

I'll just have to plan ahead of time to have time off to go to Martinfest in June. I wouldn't miss that for the world!

Barb - What a great idea you have!! It's great to set up your other home for the seniors, and yes, they will love the martins. The entertainment will be priceless for them.

Yep, those border collies are the greatest and smartest dogs on earth. I had one and she loved to herd the kids in the backyard. It was fasinating to watch her.

I love this bumper sticker I saw not too long ago -"My border collie is smarter than your honor student"...there is a grain of truth in that.

Good luck with your endeavors this season. Keep us posted on the senior house and their martins.

Thanks, Tom and Lanell. I'm really looking forward to this.

Tom, that's great that your mentee had Martins his first year.... especially in Canada! I know you must be proud!

And Lanell, you know about Border Collies then, don't you! "Freckles" is the smartest dog I've ever known and so devoted and loyal. Now if I could only find a man like that..... lol!!

Loved the bumper sticker!
