Greetings!!!
This is the first spring that I have been on this board. I think it is great! One interesting thing that I see is that by watching everyones messages about PM sightings I may be able to determine the flight pattern of my colony. I have always wondered if mine came from Florida,Texas, or straight across. This may give me an idea of their route.
Got to get back to work. Later today I will work on my houses. But that is not a chore!!! Good luck everyone. TIGERPITT

Welcome aboard. When you get a chance, tell us a little more about your colony. We always enjoy hearing from landlords.
I have been interested in PMs my whole life. As a kid(early 1970s) in southeast Alabama I would grow gourds and put them up. Always had good luck. After college, marriage, kids etc. I decided to try my luck at it again. Now I live on the western shore of Mobile Bay. Three years ago I put up an old 12 compartment aluminum house I got from somewhere. I think it is a Trio or something. Had no birds that year. Decided to attatch gourds at each corner of the house the next year and had two pair (in the gourds of course).Last year I put up a second 12 compartment aluminum house (this was one of the six sided ones) and attached 3 more gourds to it. I had 15 pair that time.I have always been a "passive" landlord but I am considering becoming more "active" after being on this site for a while. One thing that I know I need to do this year is be able to treat the houses for mites during the summer. When I took the houses down at the end of the year I saw mites in the old nests. I bought two new telescoping poles to use. Last year they were attached to perminant poles on my pier. Thanks to Katrina all that is gone. Now I need to get the houses back up. It sounds like they will be here soon.
I hope I can ask yall for advice this year.

Ask away. Our advice is free! Also, let us know how you do. I bet you are covered up in martins with so much housing lost in the storms.
