Florida To See More Martin Arrivals-The WeatherWatchers

With the winds aloft favorable and the low pressure system hovering
over the South, Florida will most likely see an influx of Martins during the next 24-48 hours. More often than not..these Martins come in during the rain and are not seen until the weather clears. They go into the housing quietly and leave early to feed and return late. Keep a look out for this behaver and you may see your Martins before the weather clears.
If the High/Low Pressures cooperate around Jan. 14, which is the full moon, we should see a large number a Martins returning in other areas, also [Texas-La-Al]. Please, be sure to report your sightings. Thank you and Good Luck on Your Purple Beauties. "The Weather Watchers"

Thanks Kathy for the info. I live in Houston, Tx. and will definitely be keeping an eye out for our beauties. I thought that I heard one a couple of times these past 2 days ??? Could have been a Mockingbird, but even that would indicate that they are / are have been in the area. The Mockers only start to copy when they are in the area and quit when the Martins have left. So if this is any indication, then I might already have a scout or two ??? Will definately be out in my yard on the 14th of Jan. Have a nice day Kathy & Happy New Year !

Kathy, thanks for all that valuable information. It has been unseasonably warm here (high yesterday 80 and 79 today). We had a little light rain in Central Florida this morning. The skies are as clear as can be now... with a slight wind and, as always, plenty of flying bugs. I saw that there were 2 more sightings posted but I suspect they are coming in all over.... just not being noticed or reported to the PMCA.

This is so unusual. I wonder what it all means.

K.C., I'm sorry to hear of your losses last year. When did they first arrive and how much earlier than normal was it?
