In New Jersey the PMs arrive mid April and leave mid August.
The Scout arrival study tells me approximately when the PMs arrive through out the Country but not when they leave.
Do PMs that arrive in Florida in January stay 4 month's and leave in April or do they stay until say September?
My Question is when do the PMs leave their nest sites and head South in your part of the country??
Have a Great Day- Jim

- Martin Colony History: First started in Gretna, La in 1969 with a small homemade house, have had martins ever since at 2 different homes in Texas
My martins arrive on average of 1st Feb to 28th Feb, then they leave about 5 days after the babies fledge, so most start leaving in early June, and 90% are gone by June 30th Counting these times looks like 4 to 4-1/2 months that they stay at my house.
They do not migrate that soon, they go to pre-migratory roosts. There must be a roost somewhere near your place. There is a hugh roost about 30 miles from my house. They stay at those roosts for 2 or 3 months, and then they migrate to S America probably sometimes in August or September. They molt, and when they can have all their feathers, they start coming back. The adults molt about 1 month before the young, so the the young came back about a month after the adults.

We're located in western KY, about 70 miles downstream on the Ohio River from Louisville. Our first scouts come about the third full week in March, and the last birds leave the colony by the end of July. -- John

Jim,
Martins arrive here in Central Florida by the end of January and stay until approx the end of June, after all the young have fledged.... so that's about 5 months. They don't get down to business until about March but then the fun begins!
They join premigratory roosts and start heading to S America around September.
