Question about posting a quote

How would I pick out a sentence from somebodies post and click on the quote button with out quoting the hole post on my reply? I see other people quote just a particular sentence and not the hole post. Thanks

Do you copy the entire thing over and then delete part of it? Good question, I need to learn how to do that also.

Click on the quote button on the right side of the person's post. Then when the reply page comes up, you will see at the very beginning it has the quote tag where it says quote = and the person's name in quotation marks with all that enclosed in brackets. That tells the program to start quoting everything that is after the quote tag (all those things in the brackets). Then notice at the end it says /quote in brackets; that tells it to end the quote.

If you want to just quote one sentence out of what the person said, just delete everything else except the quote tag at the beginning that tells it to quote and the end quote tag at the very end that tells it to end the quote. Everything between those two tags will be quoted. Then after that you can type your reply and it won't be quoted what you say, just what the other person said.

You could even separate the person's post into several quotes by copying and pasting those tags, putting the quote tag at the beginning of whatever you want to quote and then put the end quote tag at the end of the sentence(s). Then you can type a reply to that part of their post. Then you can do the same with other parts of their post, copying the quote tag and pasting it at the beginning of the sentence(s) you want to quote; then at the end of that section, put another end quote tag, and then put your reply to that part of the person's post, and so on. You can try it on my post if you want to for practice.

My quotes don't come out in white box like yours. Can you explain were I'm going wrong? Thanks

Yes, I can explain. Only put the /quote with the brackets around it at the END of your quote, NOT at the beginning and the end. You want that other thing at the beginning of the quote instead (the part at the very beginning that's there when you click on the quote button of a person's post). If you're quoting something I said, the thing that will show right at the beginning of mine would be quote="Cathy Brouse ~ PA", and it's in those brackets. If you would click in the quote button in a post of Emil's, then at the very beginning of that quote it would say quote="Emil Pampell-TX", and it's enclosed in brackets. I'm not typing it here exactly as it appears at the beginning of the quote or everything I'm typing here would look like one of those quotes. I hope you understand now. I'm not sure how else to explain it. Maybe I'm not good at explaining things.

Lou, Maybe I'm the one that's confused now. I never have to click the quote button twice, as clicking it already brings up the post of the person that you want to quote, so I don't see any reason to have to click on it more than once. Clicking on the quote button brings up a reply box on your screen just as if you'd have clicked on the reply button instead, and the quote is all ready to go (you don't have to copy and paste it). Then just type your reply right after the person's quote and the end quote tag. I guess your way would work; it just seems to be an extra step to me that you don't need, but whatever works for you and you understand is just fine I guess.
