Little RED ANT"S, took less an a day to kill Four new borns in one nest and two in another. These ant's were so small I could verily see them. Ok I don't see as good as I use to.
I have only noticed this on a wooden T-14 pole, but I would think the could climb Steel round poles also. My only defence was to wipe out ever compartment, change all the nests, inspect the babies, put ant killer at the bottom of the pole, wrap fly tape around the pole with grease in the crack's, and Inspect for ant's ever day, luckily they couldn't get past my barrier's.
I suggest you prepare or starting thinking about ANT's, before the invade and kill you babies. They can be easily overlooked, if it was for the little red bite marks on the babies, I would of probably overlooked them and lost alot or all of the babies in that house. Maybe this is a local problem, I all kinds of ant's, but these guys are verily visible unless you look close.
One last thing if you see them crawling up your pole most probably they are biting the babies. I wonder how many they kill in tree cavity nester's?
